A VISIT FROM HAMSA DHOTA, OUR DISTRICT GOVERNOR

Hamsa Dhota came to our breakfast meeting last week and told us of his joy in Rotary.  He was accompanied by Andy Lohn from Savannah South and Mick McKay from Savannah Sunrise, our two Assistant Governors. Hamsa’s family grew up, he said, with Rotary as its background.  He has been a Rotarian since 1978, when he joined the St. Simons Club.  Since then he has started the Jeckyll Island and the Camden County Clubs. He told us a little of his early life and work experience and of his growing interest in Rotary and its common passion to serve.

Hamsa has been particularly interested in international service and spoke at some length about the successful campaign against polio. It has been the concept of togetherness, mutual effort and belief in service that has enabled us to bring success to the effort to eliminate polio, he said, and this enthusiasm must continue to end the disease for all time, and to achieve all the objectives of Rotary. Hamsa’s joy in talking to us about his vision for Rotary, for service above self, the wonder of making a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate, came across vividly to all of us that morning.  We thanked him for his visit and hope to see him here as often as he can manage to come.
