Elizabeth Oxnard, American Traditions Vocal Competition’s co-founder, told us about this event on Wednesday. The Competition is celebrating 25 years of fun – and it’s still fun, Elizabeth said. It started out very small, and it grew, with more competitors and more followers, and we were asked to join the events which take place in Savannah throughout the month of February. The voices are getting better every year, and there is amazing talent; some of the competitors keep coming back, others are new voices not previously heard in Savannah. Elizabeth told us and showed us the stories of some of the competitors and played a tape for us.
The music includes such genres as jazz, pop, country, art songs, opera, Johnny Mercer, musicals and musical theater, and sacred music. Competitors must show capability in multiple genres and must sing in various stages leading up to the Finals. Elizabeth said that many people in Savannah are involved with the Competition, they get to know the competitors, offer them hospitality, and attend the performances. She urged us to come to enjoy the performances, the participants, and the music.

Elizabeth was introduced to us by our member and former Rotary Club President Susan Kleine; the two have been friends for many years. For more information on the Competition and its schedule, visit its website,
